The Calling, final color

This is a commission I recently finished for This is Jennifer Sherwood and she's character created by the client for several stories they have written or are in the process of writing. Forgive me Rebel if I'm getting the details mixed up. The setting is early 1910's USA. America is not yet directly involved in The Great War but due to its industrial and agricultural might it is still an important player in the struggle. Of course some powers in Europe would prefer if the US got more involved while other strive to keep the US out or at least distract.

    That is where Jennifer alternate identity comes into play. By night she's effectively a proto-superhero battling against German agents and foreign provocateurs. It was kind of fun developing the details for her crime fighting outfit because at that time period one could not simple mail order tactical gear, especially for a woman. So most items would have to be custom made. Also along with her wits, training, courage, and utility belt Jennifer carries two very potent and for the time very modern weapons. A pair of Colt 1911 45ACP pistols. These were just starting to come on the market and they represented in many ways the state of the art in handgun technology. Even to this day the 1911 is benchmark that folks often compare other tactical and defensive handguns against.

    However there is another struggle that Jennifer Sherwood is heavily involved in, and that is the fight for Woman Suffrage in the USA Link Using her influence in the publishing world and recently inherited wealth Jennifer fights for women to have a say in how their country is governed. 

    The piece is done in my usual mixture of colored pencil, pen and ink, marker, and gouache on vellum surface Bristol Board. Image size roughly 14"x 17". be
