Continuing in my Equestria dreamscape. It was now the main part of my first dream arc really started taking form. The summer meteor shower had come and gone, and Petina and I continued to learn more about the world of Equestria with the help of Twilight Sparkle and her friends. Twilight continued to graciously let Petina and I stay in a spare bedroom at the Ponyville Library. Although as time went on and Twilight got to know Petina better she began to question the wisdom of having that white unicorn mare under the same roof as her.

It was not that Petina was rude, obnoxious or a slob but as Petina became more comfortable in Ponyville and with the other ponies certain things about her came to Twilight's knowledge. Like Petina's habit of eyeing every decent looking stallion and mare in town. Like her willingness to casually discuss certain intimate topics if asked. Especially if the other party displays any interest in the topic. Topics that Twilight had never heard any pony talk about so willingly, and the depth of knowledge Petina seemed to possess of those topics. Her willingness to share this knowledge with others. The fact that even with the door to Twilight bedroom closed and our's to there were certain unmistakable sounds that came from guest bedroom in the evening. The fact that Spike was having to do more laundry than usual. Things like that.

Now Twilight rather likes me and has been very encouraging of me trying to "regain" my lost memories as result of my injuries. She has helped both Petina and I get much better at our use of unicorn magic. However there were several things about my current condition I found alarming. The first it had almost been a month since my arrival and my Cutie Mark had not appeared. I had been back to Charity Hooves and to the Ponyville Hospital but they were just as baffled. My flanks remain stubbornly scarred. Twilight had even taken to writing Princess Celestia and her instructors in Canterlot for advice but had received no useful suggestions back.

The second thing were these phantom memories that I would have on occasion. Almost like flashbacks, except they appeared to be memories from Paynes Gray. The Unicorn Stallion who appears to have brought me here to Equestria. Some of these memories were almost like hellish nightmare. Of endless desolate wasteland that were perpetually shrouded in a dreary twilight. Others are more vague but appear to be of happy domestic scenes in some pony city long ago. These memories usually surfaced when I was sleeping or letting my mind wander, but I was starting to have them while wide awake. I one moment I was walking down the street the next moment I was standing looking out over a grey grim landscape filled with the sound of moaning winds. While I was alarmed by these images I was worried what Twilight and the others might start thinking if I told them. It was almost as if the one sharing these thoughts wanted them to be secret. Fortunately I had not walked into any light poles while having one of these visions.

However it was the last thing that really alarmed Twilight and myself. Having discovered the ability to levitate things with my horn it was only a matter of time before I attempted to draw something that way. As was to be expected my first attempts were rather child-like in execution, but within a few days I was producing simply amazing drawings. In fact they were better than any drawing I have ever actually produced. The problem was that as I continued to draw the frequency of flashback memories increased. Most of these memories seemed to of Paynes himself painting and drawing. It was around this time that I had memory of his and caught his reflection in a mirror. His cutie mark was a paint brush. Then one day Twilight and I were sitting by the window enjoying a pleasant afternoon in Ponyville. I was drawing and she was enjoying her latest book. I was putting the finishing touches on a drawing of this beetle that I had imagined in my head when suddenly my view of the world lurched and rolled. Then I heard Paynes voice in my head. "You've learned quickly. Good, good! Excellent, now lets see if you can make this happen. Let's see your true potential!" I suddenly without thinking I felt my horn flare with magic and this amazing sense of energy flowed out of me. The world dropped out of focus.

"Baron!" My vision snapped back and found that Twilight had both her hooves on shoulders and she was shaking me to get my attention. Her eyes were filled with alarm and concern. "How did you do that?!" Exclaimed Celestia's favorite student."Do what?" I asked somewhat befuddled. "That!" She pointed with her right hoof at the piece of paper I had been drawing on. The creamy white paper was clean and unmarked. My beetle was now slowly crawling along table and making its way to the window sill. Reaching out with her levitation magic, Twilight snatched the beetle and carried it with her over to one of her desks. After a moment of rummaging around, all the while keeping the struggling beetle floating in front her she found a small glass specimen jar and lid. A metal letter opener quickly provided several air holes in the lid. With beetle secured in the jar she turned and trotted back to me. Setting the jar on the table in front of me she resumed speaking to me. "You were working on this drawing of a beetle, when suddenly your eyes started glowing white. I also felt an enormous amount magic emanate from you. As I watched the beetle rose from the piece of paper and started moving around." She looked at me with alarm. "Baron do you realize what you've just done?!" I rubbed the back of my head with one hoof and looked sheepishly at her "Um, my bug drawing came to life, and that is not normal is it Twilight?" "NO BARON IT IS NOT!" Exploded the young violet mare. "This is both amazing and very alarming! How were able to do this! Why didn't you tell me you could do this!" Twilight began pacing the around the room. "Baron, what you've done is nothing short of amazing! I don't believe that even the Royal Sisters can do this! Why have I not heard of you before in any of the journals I read or lectures I attended? How was it possible for you to develop this talent without no else discovering you?!" She stopped her pacing in front of me glared at me as I sat by the window sill. "I need answers. Speak!"

I stared silently down at my hooves from a moment before replying. "Twilight I don't think it was really me who brought that beetle to life. For just a moment I heard this voice in my head and it seemed like it took over my body and made it happen." Twilight looked confused. "Baron what are you saying. Is this the first time this has happened or have there been other incidents like this?" I smiled somewhat weakly back at her. "I have not brought anything to life before this time, but I have had these phantom like memories in my mind. At first they were only in my sleep, but they have started occurring while I am awake. Especially if I am drawing." Twilight face hooved and growled. "You told me about a couple of the dreams you had but you could've told me about these other memories, visions, you have had. Baron this is scary. Especially if what you just did was not of your own free will. What else could you be forced to do? Have you thought of that?" I looked even more sheepishly at her. "Uh that thought never occurred to me." Twilight banged her head on the window sill. "Well until we know more I don't want you drawing anything else. Okay? I don't want you taking any risks." "Risks? What risks are those Twilight. " With a frustrated sigh she looked up at the ceiling. "What energy brought that beetle to life? Are you using up some of your own life-force when you do that? Are taking some of mine? Are you taking it from the surrounding lands in Ponyville and the world. Until we know more I don't want you potentially injuring yourself or any other pony around you. Now if you will forgive me I have a letter to write." With that she went to find Spike.

So I spent the rest of the day nosing around the library since drawing was forbidden. Petina returned later in the day and was suitably impressed with Twilight's animated telling of me giving life to my drawing. At Twilight's insistence we were asked not to discuss this with any pony until Twilight heard back from the royal sisters. Around ten o clock I retired to Petina and I's bedroom and fell asleep. The next thing I remember was Petina cuffing me in the back of the head and Twilight yelling at me. I was standing in middle of the Library. There were sheets of blank paper all over the floor along with assorted drawing instruments. And the room was full of Whootkits! [link]

Now Whootkits are these goofy flightless birds that myself and my coworkers at my day job came up with. They are like the unofficial mascots of our store. They are not native to Equestria. They are generally pleasant and agreeable creatures to meet. Outdoors. Not in the middle of a library. Even worse they appeared to be nesting mode and had started disassembling of the books in the library for nesting material. This did not sit well with Twilight. Petina was not happy with them either because one particularly annoying whootkit kept hopping on top of her head. Yeah I was scoring points with the mares.

Cute birds and Petina got a secret admirer or maybe not so secret when he is sitting on her head. :)
