Werewolf by Baron-Engel Werewolf by Baron-Engel
This was an illustration I did for a game magazine back in the early 90's. Funny thing is that they paid for it but never ran it. Oh well. Werewolf the game was all the rage back then and you could not swing a cat around a Dealers Room at a con and not hit someone going on and on about the game. It never held much appeal for me.

For this drawing I decided to do a more Frank Franzetta style of shading for the piece. Using lots of vertical lines to it. Someday I should consider doing a final color for it.

Thank you. I definitely wanted it to look like something you did not want to meet in a dark alley one night.

1991? Holy cow, I've just been bit by the nostalgia bug... and I wasn't even alive in 91.

Anyways, great drawing. Awesome style, and good job on the shading!

At least you got paid for it.
A bit off topic, but do you think you can mention work in a resume or portfolio if they pay but not use it?

Better to be paid and unused than used and unpaid. ;-)

There are always memes and even cycles in the fandoms. (MLP:FiM is a hot one at the moment.)

Yeah this is true. I just happen to like this meme more. Also I like the message that MLP:FIM has far more than the Werewolf game had.

It's an interesting effect -- what's the difference between a fad and a new classic? (Durability over time, mostly.) Between fashion and style (similar, but on a more personal basis)?

"Werewolves" have been around a long time. "Werewolf: the Apocalypse" (or whatever other names it had) seems to have been part of a cycle. Werewolves will probably come back repeatedly. (There's a LEGO set with one right now.) WtA? Not so likely.
