The Sworn Protector

More imagery from my Angel and Knight Prime dreamscape. In my last posting link I commented that the painting hanging on the wall behind Jessica was of her boss. Well this is that image.

Her name is Olivia Campatello and she is member of a secret society sworn to observe and contain paranormal beings in the realm of mortals. I will do a more detailed posting about her and the organization in the future.

With this picture I was attempting to recreate the feeling of Western European religious imagery from the 18th and early 19th century. In particular the use of vibrant colors like blue which until the industrial revolution were so costly that only the Church and the aristocracy could afford to have pieces commissioned that used them extensively. The armor is fashioned after the style made popular by the armor-smiths of Northern Italy in the mid 15th century. The sword is also roughly from that time period. The time period of the armor and the sword are of significance since they do connect to an important period in Olivia's family history. That will also be explained in greater detail in the future.

This is picture is almost entirely colored pencil and I was very happy with how the background shifts from rich golden yellow to deep stormy Prussian blue. As usual the picture was done on vellum finish Bristol Board and is about 11"x 17" in size.
