Samorta Hill Drake 01 by Baron-Engel Samorta Hill Drake 01 by Baron-Engel
This is another series of dragon related sketches I did several years ago. Once again this was when I batting around the idea of doing a book on dragons.

In this world wingless dragons are called drakes. They are usually considered not as powerful as true dragons but are still dangerous and magnificent creatures in their own right.

This was done with graphite pencil on Bristol board.

I love the first-person narrative that goes with it.

I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that thing's territory. Not too excited by the idea of being suddenly eaten by a huge sneaky beast...

Drake: What's this? Some kind soul has staked out a meal for me by my favorite watering hole? Well far be it for me to refuse such a gift!

Nice picture and description Baron.

Truly a magnificent drake! One hopes that you can't find this beast wandering around the Everfree Forest. Then again, Fluttershy would probably just make a pet out of it.

Your subconscious man... I'm not entirely sure I'd want to live in your head... then again, ponies...

Dragons were some of the first critters I ever drew. I seem to have an affinity for them.

Well planes, trains, automobiles were the first things I drew, but around high school I started doing figure and more organic stuff. Dragons were amongst the first things I tried.
