Pretty Melody color by Baron-Engel Pretty Melody color by Baron-Engel
Melody Atherton the lead singer of "Move to the Music!" has from the earliest days of the group has been portrayed as the sexy, sophisticated, bombshell of the band. For the band's third album "Sirens Call" she posed for this splash page photo that ran in a popular entertainment magazine.

Needless to say the photo caused quite a chatter in the media and on related fan sites and chat rooms. Sales for that months issue of the magazine were way up, and various "concerned" parents groups raised a ruckus about the risque nature of the photo! Most important for the band the first track shot up to number one on the Billboard charts for seven weeks and sales of the album went platinum within three months of its release. By the end of the year tens of thousands bedrooms, dorm rooms, lockers, garages had this image taped or thumb tacked to them. For someone who is 8.375" tall she sure can cover a lot of real estate.

There are several things about this piece that I am very happy with. One I'm very happy with how the liquid and the glass bottle came out. With a growing interest in doing hot rod art I have to get better at how I handle shiny, reflective surfaces. Two I'm rather pleased with how the flower came out. It might seem like a simple thing but I really have drawn very few of them. However since Melody likes to garden it is an area I'll need to get better at. It is done in my typical mixed media of color pencil, marker, micron pen, and gouache.

Gorgeous. Really the best word to describe one's first impression of Melody. It's no surprise the band has so many loyal fans/worshipers.

Yeah Melody and Rarity would probably get along just smashingly.

Indeed. They do seem quite similar. Beauty and cunning.

Incredibly sexy!  I'm not surprised the album sold so well, especially since the girls are so committed to their craft that the music was likely top notch as well!

Yeah, originally they were pitched as just being another of those cookie-cutter, mass produced girl bands that the music industry routinely produces, and for their first album they weren't much more than that. Just a really good version of it. However with their second album their lyrics and music slowly started evolving it what Melody and the gang wanted to be all along. A serious, respected musical act. Since then they continued to grow on their strengths. They just used the teeny-bopper angle to get their foot in the door.

Like I've always said, it's an injustice that the waking world got Spice Girls and not Move to the Music!

Although Spice Girls and equivalents is what Thames Records compared Movie to the Music! to when they first pitched them to radio stations ,distributors and the media. Only after the band's first album did the girls start to really show the true depth of their talent.
