Heavenly Bawdy proposed designs 01

Okay the back-to-back convention whirlwind is behind me. I've gotten over the worst of the Con Crud, and wife is finally starting to recover from her bout which was twice as bad. I have an appointment with a specialist to see what's going on with my right leg this week, and I've knocked out two good size commissions and moved several more along down production schedule.

    However I have one last big project that is going to eat most of the month of February at that is the last of Roan RPG art. One of the pieces I have to do is the Color piece for Petina DePony who is an important NPC in the game. The center of her little empire of influence and vice is large airship called the Heavenly Bawdy. It is a combination casino, nightclub, restaurant, and brothel all wrapped up in one floating palace hedonism.

    The Heavenly Bawdy is not a very fast airship, but it does have that Art Deco swoopy, streamline look from the 1930s. A time when even toasters looked like they could do 100mph just sitting on your kitchen counter. Before I started working out elements of its design I reviewed architecture, aviation, automobiles, and even naval vessels from the era. However none of them had the right feel to them, then I decided to take a look at locomotives from the era. Bingo! After running the designs past we've settled on #2 although #3 was a strong contender.

    The Heavenly Bawdy is a large airship, about the size of ocean liners from the 1930s. It makes its way back and forth across Roan traveling to different locations in relation to local festivals, events or just the time of the year. It will often operate just outside of most cities, counties and municipalities. This allows Petina's airship to not interfere too much with local air traffic and keeps outside of local laws and ordinances.

    Since the Heavenly Bawdy works a routine circuit Petina makes certain that advertisements appear in local papers, publications and on billboards in advance of its arrival. Also the airship has extensive neon lighting, spotlights and theater-like marque electrical signage to light up the nighttime sky. The airship has a large landing area in the rear where small airships, and autogyros can and disembark with paying customers. Also the Heavenly Bawdy is a equipped with small flotilla of air launches that act as sky buses ferrying customers from local communities up to the airship.
