HB by Baron-Engel HB by Baron-Engel
Haven't posting anything of my busty raccoon character Jessica Knight in awhile so I decided to fix that. For many in the firearms community HB means Heavy Barrel, and that maybe true here to. However in Jessica's case it can also be used to describe something else in the picture.

This piece was from my Long Torso Era of figures but overall it still a nice piece. There were couple of interesting challenges to doing the picture. One was the rifle that Jessica is holding which is a Walther WA2000. When I did this picture way back in 2003 finding good reference for it was rather difficult. Most books used the same small somewhat blurry photo and it was from the wrong side! What other photos I could locate online were posted by the individual owners of WA2000, but this created its own problems. Walther produced only a small number of WA2000s and every owner seems to have modified their rifle to fit their own needs. This made it difficult to find out what a base model WA2000 looked like. After several sketches and communicating with a couple owners I got a feel for the rifle. Oh, in case you are wondering, yes they really are that big. WA2000 are huge!

The other fun trick was figuring out how to do camo BDU-style pants. In fact this was the first time I had done camo . Once again it is my usually colored pencil, marker, technical pen and gouache on vellum Bristol Board. The image is about 11"x 14"

Well as I said it was from a period I now call my Long Torso Era when waist got a bit on the slim side and things got sort of elongated. But that is part of growing and learning as an illustrator.

That's a pretty hefty gun.  Is it supposed to be a standard assault rifle or is it more like a squad support weapon?

When I look at that rifle, I'm immediately reminded of the sniping scene from The Living Daylights with Timothy Dalton and of one scene from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig where Motoko Kusanagi had a rifle that was pretty obviously based off of this design.

That was the first time I became aware of that rifle. I immediately started doing my homework, but in the 1980's there was not much about it out there.

Another unique feature is that the rifle's integral bipod is mounted -above- the barrel, as opposed to strapped onto the bottom of the handguard as on most sniper rifles.

Yeah apparently it makes it much harder to accidentally tip over since most of the mass is below the bipod.

Yeah I just watched Raccoon Nation on Netflix last night. I liked some of the cheeky comments some of the experts made about the raccoons during the program.

Okay, Jessica is a raccoon. You have a raccoon presence in some settings. Which came first? Has Jessica seen you as a raccoon? And if so, how did she react to that?

Well I started having anthro dreams, especially Andur dreams years before I had my first A&K Prime dream in 1999. I have actually physically met Jessica once by accident. Rosemary and I were standing at a crosswalk/ intersection waiting for the light to change when Jessica walked up. It was rather odd since Jessica is much taller than I am, 5'. 8" for her compared to my 5'.2". For several seconds we just stood there in silence then Jessica looked over at Rosemary.

"I know you." Jessica said looking at the skunk. "You were on the cover of last winters Dillon Blue Press catalog!" This was one of those times Rosemary had gone out without her amulet. They made some small talk and I for the most part kept my mouth shut, then light changed and we crossed the streets and went our separate ways.

It would be interesting to see an image of that encounter, especially with your eyes at Jessica's chin level (dangerously close to other -- ahem -- features).

Rosemary's amulet? I don't recall you mentioning that before. I presume it has some sort of "you don't know who I am" enchantment on it. What are the rules of its effects?

Yes with Rosemary watching me very closely.

Ka-Rilka made it for her, when she is wearing it folks don't make the connection of her and her celebrity career. She's just another very attractive woman and that is that. If you really know her you can she through the spell, but it keeps most of the paparazzi's off her tail.

...with Rosemary watching me very closely.

You make it sound as if there's some "speciesist" assumptions in that dreamscape, mostly that people of the same species are more like to associate / be attracted to each other.

...but it keeps most of the paparazzi's off her tail.

Yes, that -- fluffy tail. ;) (And apostrophes are used with the possessive "s," not the plural.) Rosemary probably gets enough unwanted attention from just her looks.

No that was case here. She was watching and judging my reaction to Jessica. She is very interested in how people interact.

Yeah, yeah sorry I don't spell and grammar check as completely my fast replies to comments. So oh well.

No worries on the grammar, not with the mistakes I make. But I've also proofread the works of others (with permission) and it turns into a habit.

I think it loosk great, specially the camo scheme and the texture of the fur. I still cannot believe this is not digital.

That is a really odd-shaped gun. I like it

Walther definitely decided not to follow the status quo in the late 1970's when they created it. What is amusing is that many current sharpshooter rifles are starting to look just unconventional as WA2000 looked thirty years ago.

Actually, I think that's supposed to be the US Woodland camo as used by the US military from the late 70's through the early 2000's.
