Griffin and pony sketches by Baron-Engel Griffin and pony sketches by Baron-Engel
Still too busy with real life stuff for a proper Equestria dreamscape update so have some sketches of the griffin Golden Bill and her partner Scratch. Ever since Petina became a big fan of Scratch she's avidly followed her in the papers and has even bought a couple of her records. In fact the little white unicorn mare has made herself quite a nice little scrapbook of Scratch related memorabilia.

One thing that Petina has recently learned is that the griffin named Golden Bill is now Scratch's lead bassist playing one of the two double basses in her band. Also the rumors definitely seem to be correct that Scratch and Golden Bill may have more than just a working relationship. link

Love the Gryphon's cocky look.
"Yeah, that's right: I play cello. You got a problem with that?"

Actually it's a double bass but Golden Bill can get rather cocky when she wants to.

Are you referring to the sketch in the bottom right?

Pretty much. I can just imagine her saying "You know what'd be nice?"

And the pony saying "What?"

Then the griffon would be like "Brownie-flavored ice cream, cause I got the munchies!"

Of course, I'm making an observation on art that's infinitely better than mine, so don't take anything I say seriously.

Scratch and Golden Bill -- hmm, may there be a little hippogriff in their future?

Well unless one of them gets zapped a gender-bender spell that will be tricky since they are both female.

Now the question is which attracted Scratch's attention first -- the griffin or her musical talents?

Huh, that's an interesting angle I did not expect. As a former violinist, I could easily see gryphons taking very well to stringed instruments. Very well indeed....  Hrm...  *dashes off a few mental notes*. Anyway, that last shot of Goldy and the stuffed Vynil is too cute for words. Seriously!

Yeah the only thing that Golden Bill has to watch out for is damaging the strings with her claws. In fact according to one article Petina read the griffin wears little slip-on claw sleeves specifically for that reason. And she does look cute with her Scratch plushie.

Actually, as dumb as it sounds, a friend and I were discussing that after seeing the picture. The idea of some sort of pad they can put over the claw came to mind with us too. Like a bit of rubber they can put on the clawtips to protect the strings. Maybe even really serious musician gryphons clip the tips of their claws on the one hand/claw to create a flat area they can put on the string (tho I imagine that would cause some odd vibrations, since the claw is very hard, and would do some odd things that a human finger wouldn't to a vibrating string. Think the diference of a Doboro or steel guitar played with the fingers vs one that used a metal "slide" or tube....  which, now that I think about it, would also make sense for gryphons to utilize).

Doesn't sound dumb at all. In the group of friends I regularly associate with doing that kind of speculative world-building is often the source of some of the best conversations we have. I treasure those kinds of discussions and my subconscious seems to enjoy it to since it does it when I sleep.

I'm one of those oddballs who talks to themself, and I answer. I will literally hold an argument from both sides as I try to work all these sorts of things out. Yes, I know that's a joking sign of insanity, but I find playing devil's advocate against myself works very well for making things believable.

I don't verbal talk to myself but often I'll let my mind wander and imagine what characters would do if presented with the same situation I am in. Of course Petina often all to willing provide her own two cents.

Yeah, I've found when I'm writing the characters will happily jump in and provide their two cent's worth. It'll almost be hard to part with them when I finally get to (and eventually finish) Book 3 of "A New Breed".

So I guess your subconcious doesn't subscribe to the Scratch/Octavia pairing then? Not that I mind this at all, quite a unique and original pairing indeed.

Scratch and Octavia have only met each other a couple times at most in my dreamscape, and according to the rumors in the grapevine they were polite and professional to each other but has been the extent of it.
