Competition gear

Just like in the real world, there are multiple plot lines advancing in my Equestria dreamscape. One of those particular plot lines is Rainbow Dash's preparation to compete as defending champion of the Best Young Fliers Competition. Secretly she has enlisted the aid of Petina and Carousel to develop an aerial dance routine that incorporates elements of their dancing style. link

Since then under the guise of instructing me for my weather exams Rainbow Dash has been visiting our little cottage outside of Ponyville for lessons in our barn link link After a somewhat rocky start she seems to be getting the hang of it and with spring upon us Rainbow Dash has begun incorporating more aerial elements into her practice. Of course this is being done on sly so none of her competitors will know of her new performance.

Along with Petina and Carousel there is one other pony is part of the cadre and that is Rarity, who has been enlisted to develop a costume for Dash to wear in the competition. After doing some homework link and consulting with Dash and the other mares, Ponyville's resident fashion designer created an ensemble for the performance.

So one spring afternoon Rarity arrived at our cottage for a final fitting and alterations of the outfit. Carousel had picked up the outfit earlier in the day while making a delivery to Carousel Boutique. Now Dash could try her new threads on. Dash had stated that she didn't want some wussy outfit for the competition, and she thought the outfits Petina and Carousel wore were really awesome. So with that information in mind Rarity had set about creating the outfit.

The outfit needed to be light, and Rarity thought black leather would not quite work as well on bright-blue, prismatic pegasus mare. So she made the chaps and front gloves/ boots out of shimmering a deep navy-blue satin that was reinforced to help it keep its form and survive the rigors of competition. Unlike Petina outfit the tassels were cords of colored metallic threads that matched the color pattern in Dash's mane and tail. Both the chaps and the navy-blue choker were embroidered with Dash's cutiemark.

Throughout the afternoon Rarity fussed over Dash's ensemble in our living room. The outfit had to flatter the mare's figure, but it also could not restrict her movements while performing. Also Rarity wanted to make absolutely certain that none of the seams or hems would fail at some unfortunate moment of the performance. Therefore Rarity insisted Rainbow Dash go through her warmup stretching routine while wearing the outfit. The outfit came through with flying colors. Dash and the other mares were very happy with Rarity's work, although I admit I found it a bit distracting as I was working in the kitchen on dinner.
