Cocktail Rose 2

In case you are wondering where Cocktail Rose 1 is I did not do it my wife created the first piece. www.furaffinity.net/view/14037… . If you are wondering how Rosemary is staying in that dress I'll just it is a result of spirit gum and imagination. This was an interesting experiment and one of a few combine digital and traditional media piece I have done.

The background was originally created digitally for Smudge's picture in Corel Draw. For my interpretation Cocktail Rose 2 the background was flipped so it mirrored the background in the first picture. Same with Rosemary's pose. I drew a graphite pencil drawing of her and then we scanned it into the computer. The pencil drawing was then combined with the digital background.

Then we printed the B/W figure with the digital color background out on a piece of 11"x 14" Bristol Board and I did my usual colored pencil, marker, technical pen, gouache technique to finish Rosemary.

I one thing I had to be careful with this picture is the fact that the printer we were using did not have waterproof inks for it. For the colored pencil blending that wasn't an issue since the solvent did not react with the ink. However the markers I used to do my underpainting and color blocking of the figure were water-based. If I was not careful I could accidentally end up smearing the ink from the printer. Same was true about using the gouache to define the highlights with white, one had to take their time and have a steady hand. But in the end it came out rather nice.
