Canterlot study by Baron-Engel Canterlot study by Baron-Engel
I have not had a chance to write the next chapter of my Equestria dreamscape, but here is something related to that universe. One of the most recognizable pieces of architecture in Equestria is the Princesses Palace in Canterlot. It seems to embody the very magic that makes up Equestria since it has to be magic that keeps the palace together on that mountain slope. Now in my dreamscape the city of Canterlot is located on the plateaus that run along side the mountain slope behind the palace. I haven't asked but the weather service pegasus and the earth ponies must be very careful to avoid avalanches into some parts of the city. Another constant feature that one hears in the city at night when things quiet down is the distant rumble of the waterfalls that descend from the mountains above.

This study was done because I just find the palace fascinating, and also because there are a couple of color pieces I want to do involving Canterlot sometime in the future. In particular one will be an aerial view of city so I need to get a better handle of it before I start on it. Probably need to fly over it a few more times in my dreams to get a better feel of it in my head. Oh, in case you were wondering. Yes I did reference an original production sketch for Canterlot while doing my own sketch.

Well I did get my degree in illustration, so I am just practicing my trade and trying to remember what happens in my sleep.

A magical place like this in real life would be considered an architectural masterpiece and probably cost a thousand fortunes to live in, let alone rent a small space of it.

A place like this is somewhere we can only dream of living in. This is an excellent sketch.

Excellent work! I do illustrations pro-bono for charities and other non-profits myself, and this is breathtaking. :)
