Basic Field Evaluation Exam by Baron-Engel Basic Field Evaluation Exam by Baron-Engel
So the day finally came. The day to take my Basic Field Evaluation Exam to become a reservist weather pony. Now since Rainbow Dash will be my boss if I pass she was not allowed to administered the exam. Instead the Weather Service sent down from Cloudsdale one Black Cloud to give the exam; who was about as different as Rainbow Dash as a pony can be. Imagine Ben Stein as a weather pony. "Bueller?"

Now there was nothing on exam that I had not practiced dozens of times. The big difference was that the exam was given over a two and half hour period. With no breaks, no landing and especially no landing on clouds. Therefore if you weren't flying around, pushing clouds, manipulating clouds, or bucking them you were hovering. This really pushed my endurance since usually don't fly for more than an hour at a time, and if you get tired you land. Therefore I was very happy when I was able to complete the exam ahead of schedule.

I was also very happy to learn that I got 92% on the written exam. That along with my performance during the Basic Field Evaluation Exam meant I easily got my certification as a reservist weather pony. In fact after six months of service and a letter of recommendation from my boss, Rainbow Dash, I could apply to take Procedural Certification Exam and become a full weather pony.

It is a silly thing to be excited about. I mean it is just my dreams not real life, I don't get any real money out of it but I still found passing the exam to be a very rewarding experience for me. And then a rare thing happened. Rainbow Dash actually bought me a round over at the Bucking Mare. link

To be continued.

I can totally understand being excited about it; I think it triggers the same emotional award that 'achievements' do in modern games. Most of the time you don't get anything useful from them (in the game or out), but there's still a sense of accomplishment when the little notification pops up on your screen.  For whatever reason, that little piece of imaginary acknowledgement means something to you. It was a challenge, and you beat it~

Sounds like it was, yeah.  Always good to have people/ponies around to help you celebrate the little things~

A Ben Stein pony? Oh God. Just keep the Clear Eyes away.... :D

Anyway, congratulations on passing the exam! True it may be a dream, but for you these dreams are far more. They build and have continuity. And considering how some of your Dreamscape's have lasted for many years, I see no reason to not get excited when something like this happens. I mean, you've been hammering away at this for weeks dreamwise. Considering how much you can recount from Andur and all your dreamscapes at the drop of a hat, that's allot of work to just consider it a dream.

I have to side with :iconf0xridley:. Think of it like reaching a acheivement milestone in a game. A game many of us would die to get our hands on. :D

Wonder how clouds feel like when touched by an earth pony...

McClaw is correct, for earth ponies or a unicorn that has not learned the cloud walking spell they just feel like mist. Now for a pegasus it is a whole different story.

What do they feel like for a pegasus?

Well it depends on how you are interacting with them. If you are trying to fly through them it is just like mist. Although pegasus ponies can get a pretty good judge the moisture density of a cloud just by feeling the cloud with their hoofs or flying through it.

Where it get interesting is when you manipulating, creating, bucking or forcing a cloud to release its moisture or static charge. Then the properties of the cloud can range wildly. From being a soft, gossamer-like sheets to being thick and as solid as soft earth. Of course things like structural clouds have an even a more solid like feel to them.

As to being excited. I don't think getting excited about an achievement in is any more silly than getting excited about an achievement in a video game. I suppose it would be even better since it feels real.

"Bueller?"

Oh god, Black Cloud's face is perfect. Reminds me of my first driving inspector.

I was left with the impression that Black Cloud controlled the weather by sheer boredom. Once the clouds were in a stupor he could then manipulate them.

That's the odd thing -- he doesn't need to be able to manipulate the weather at all to be successful at evaluating other pegasi doing that.

So what did you create when you were "cloud manipulating"?

Nothing artistic unfortunately. Instead Black Cloud wanted to see if I could form a cloud out of the water vapor that was present in the air that day, and it was pretty humid so that was not a challenge. Then he wanted me to combine my newly formed cloud to a preexisting one nearby. Once that was completed I had move that cloud and added it as cell to a larger cumulus cloud that already had multiple cells.

Upon completing that task could I even move the larger cloud. Which I could. Then Black Cloud asked me to produce precipitation from the cloud, which entailed jumping up and down on it which is lots of fun. After that I was asked to disperse the cloud which I did by cloud bucking.

So, since Pegasi and earth Ponies have victory dances, do unicorns and the Princesses have one too?
