Back blast by Baron-Engel Back blast by Baron-Engel
This was an amusing piece in that I did of my dear Rosemary several years ago. I sold it to a fellow who served three years in Iraq and fortunately came back in one piece. besides appreciating Rosemary he went to great lengths to tell me how I got the RPG-7 right and how they got shot at by them all the time.

The fun thing with doing this piece was the fact I had never seriously drawn a RPG-7. I had some okay photo reference and after doing some sketches I was able to figure out how to draw at the angle I needed for the picture.

The piece is my usual colored pencil, marker, gouache and technical pen on vellum finish Bristol Board. The image is about 12"x 16".

Thanks! RPG-7s are deceptively complicated in their design. At first glance they look easy to draw but if get any of their elements wrong they start looking wonky really fast!

Yeah, the PGO-7 scope and the PG-7 warhead is very good too.

Yeah the PGO-7 scopes are a collection of angles that are fun to draw in perspective. Fortunately I had some good reference photos for this piece.

I can easily imagine Rosemary contracted to model for some arms company. She seems to enjoy working with props like these.

Well she's been a Dillon's Blue Press girl. Does that count?

I suppose it does. But somehow I don't think we'll be seeing her holding something designed to stuff things into small holes anytime in the near future. ;)

Why does everything you draw turn to gold? :XD:

I really love this, Baron. And I have to agree with the person who bought this. The way you drew that RPG is just mind blowing. I love all the detail and the way you do colors. It always reminds me of classic manga and anime where heavy attention was always put on vehicles and equipment. But knowing how much those subjects were an influence for you, I guess that's not surprising.

Yeah anime and manga have had a huge influence on my work, and I am still a very avid watcher of anime.
